Friday Favorites: 12.18.20

This time next week is Christmas day! I really can't believe it. I haven't gotten in the spirit this year, which seems to be a common sentiment. Despite the hardships of the year, I hope we can all experience a little of the holiday magic over the next week.

Also, there will not be a Friday Favorites next week. My laptop will be far away from the Christmas tree and my cozy pajamas. I'll start back in the new year!

Back to this week... you've been bombarded with clothes and shoes and home goods recently through the many gift guides (mine included) out there. I thought it would be fun to change things up and do a beauty-focused list this week instead of the usual. I'm also posting a blog this weekend with lots of cool artwork to shop. For now, enjoy a beauty break.

Clearly Basics Lighten Up

In the past couple of years, my skin has started giving me some issues. It has become pretty sensitive and is no stranger to irritation bumps, blackheads ands whiteheads. I mentioned this to a friend, who recommended the Clearly Basics line to me. I have really enjoyed their products, especially the Lighten Up.

If, like me, you have a bad habit of picking at your face when you're stressed, then you might have some discoloration or redness leftover from those spots. The Lighten Up product has really helped me erase and lighten those marks!

PS - I love reading skincare reviews and seeing before-and-afters. Clearly Basics has some of the best reviews on their page!

MakeUp Eraser

I still don't understand how this product works, but it does. It takes off everything, including mascara and every ounce of my tinted moisturizer. I wash mine after every three-ish days and it still works like new.

Also, I only learned in the past year that traditional makeup remover wipes are really bad for both the environment and your skin. I'm trying to get away from them as much as possible, although I still use them sometimes.

If you need a good stocking stuffer for a family member or friend -- or if you just want to treat yourself -- try this out. I promise it really does work!

FlowerBomb Perfume

I have been in need of a new perfume and finally found a winner. I visited both Nordstrom and Macy's to inquire about their best-selling scents and both mentioned Flowerbomb. While I don't love the idea of smelling like everyone else, I couldn't pass up this one. It smells amazing and both department stores were running a deal for the perfume, lotion and travel-size spray at a discount.

It was difficult for me to try to explain the scent in my own words, so I turned to the source: The opening notes of Flowerbomb are sweet and floral-infused dominated by the tea and bergamot fragrances. At the heart of the Flowerbomb fragrance are the floral notes which linger to create a long-lasting scent which creates an opulent and luxurious perfume that creates a floral aroma loved by millions.

Supergoop! CC Cream

This product is my staple. It is usually the only thing I wear in terms of "makeup" unless I'm doing something important. I love the sunscreen (SPF 50) and the fact that it provides color correction. I usually wear the light/medium shade (230C) and it matches my skin tone well. Recently, I wanted to pick up a lighter shade for my pale winter skin but found that the 206W was wayyyy too white for even my pale self!

CC Screen is a super clean, oil-free, 100% mineral color-corrector cream that provides complete care for your skin with natural, buildable coverage. It’s non-nano, higher SPF protection for your best, healthy skin, always.

Clearly Basics So Fresh Cleanser

Another Clearly Basics product I'm loving is their new So Fresh Cleanser. This cleanser is made with peppermint and lime -- natural ingredients that have great benefits for the skin! Peppermint oil naturally cleanses and has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It also has a cooling effect which soothes irritation and inflammation. When I'm using the cleanser, I can actually feel a slight tingle on the skin, which makes me aware of whether or not I'm using it all over my face (keeps me from being lazy!). This product is formulated for sensitive skin, which is important for me.

I also appreciate this product because it is concentrated and doesn't require a lot to make a difference -- AKA I don't have to fill the whole palm of my hand in order to spread the product on my face. One bottle lasts a long time and it really works!

Olaplex Shampoo and Conditioner

My hair is thick and gets really tangly, really easily. This problem was exacerbated after I got highlights for the first time a couple of years ago. I mentioned this to my stylist at the time and she recommended Olaplex, which I've been using ever since.

Since then, every single stylist I have been to comments on the health of my hair and nods knowingly when I mentioned that I use Olaplex religiously. It is worth the splurge, even though my husband was in shock when he saw the charge on our Amazon account.

Silk Pillowcase

The silk pillowcase may be overhyped but I really like mine. I didn't get magically perfect skin or hair when I started using it, of course, but it does feel good on my skin and it stays pretty cool at night, which is a plus. From my basic online research... "While silk pillowcases are great for preventing facial creases and bedhead, they aren't going to pass nutrients into your skin or help with breakouts." This pillowcase won't singlehandedly transform your beauty routine, but it can be a great addition to it. It also makes a nice gift! I use a cheaper one from Amazon and always air-dry it when I wash it. If you want the high-quality one, try this one from Slip.
